BP has invested more than USD 800 million in Poland since 1991. It is among the 20 largest Polish firms and employs around 3,000 persons in its five divisions.
Poland’s location at the crossroads of the main communication routes in this part of Europe, creates a high demand for BP products and services. This is a significant factor for BP. The key BP investments in Poland took place in the 1990s. It was then – at the time of the fundamental political changes and the switch to a market economy with free-market rules and competition – that BP decided to build a network of petrol stations and to invest in the fields of liquid propane-butane gas, asphalts production and trade in lubricants and chemicals BP started its operations in Poland on September 17th, 1991. Initially the Polish operation only consisted of a sales office for automobile and industrial lubricants. The first BP service station in Poland opened on August 5th 1995. In the following years, BP built more service stations, both company-owned and dealer-owned. Currently, BP has the most extensive service station network of all the foreign fuel companies operating in Poland. |
