On the 18th of September a letter of intent was signed between Poland and the American company Dell in Łódź. Polish Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński was present at the ceremony.

At 11:30 am on the 18th of September, the letter of intent was signed by the Vice President of Dell for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Sean Corkery. Mr. Corkery will oversee the new factory. Minister of Economy Piotr Grzegorz Woźniak and the Mayor of Łódź, Jerzy Kropiwnicki, represented the Polish side.
“The main reason for deciding on this location for the factory was the proximity of a large number of clients, the opportunity to broaden our activity on the Central European markets and the supply of qualified Polish staff,” said Paul Bell, Dell President for Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Our expansion is an element of our strategy to increase client satisfaction which will allow for further development of the company."
The new investment is valued at EUR 200 million and will be carried out in Łódź-Olechów, on a 47 ha plot which will soon be incorporated into the Łódź Special Economic Zone. The Łódź factory will complement the activities of the Dell factory in Ireland. The investor declared that the factory will be one of the most technologically advanced plants in the world, producing the most modern and complex information technologies such as new-generation servers and notebooks from the renowned LatitudeTM and InspironTM series.
The new factory will be opened in August 2007. The facility will initially employ 1000 people, and by 2012 the number of employees will rise to 3000. Employment in the business surroundings of the factory will also increase.
